Indigenous CREATE is a training program for Indigenous students working in the environmental sector and international students doing community-led research environmental research with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada and other Indigenous communities around the world.

Students interested in the Indigenous CREATE program must be enrolled at one of the three participating universities (The University of Manitoba, UCN or Lakehead University). DO NOT FORGET TO ATTACH PROOF OF ENROLLMENT OR AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER TO YOUR APPLICATION AS A PDF. For Lakehead students, a Letter of Offer will also be accepted.

Please name your PDF in the following format: 

First and Last Name_Type of Application_Type of proof_Date.pdf

Example: Jane Dear_Undergraduate Application_Accaptance Letter_January 2024.pdf

On the application, we ask you to reflect on the program’s research areas and how they connect to your research interests. The main Indigenous CREATE research areas are: 

  1. Water quality.
  2. Traditional use plants or medicines.
  3. Traditional use fish or wildlife.
  4. Indigenous-led and community-based monitoring.
  5. Networking, outreach, and communications with and for Indigenous communities.
  6. Participatory and community-led evaluation of programs related to the environment.

  • How your research will contribute to the Indigenous communities you will be working with, and
  • Work experience in the environmental sector.
